my list: part 1

I've seen several of these lists people make of things to do before they die. I also have one of these somewhere; I made it while I was in high school and come across it when I clean sometimes. I haven't done many of the things on it, but I've done a lot that I never planned on doing, and that's the way my life tends to go. I don't have much planned, but most of the things I've done were just opportunities that came along that I took.

So, I decided to make a list of the things I've done that might be on a list of "things to do before I die." Except instead of crossing things off, I get to add things. Some are things I really wanted to do at one point, and others are things I just sort of stumbled across. It's really for my own purposes but if anyone's interested, here, in no particular order, is my list of...

Things I Did Before I Died:

1. Slept on the sidewalk in front of the Nederlander Theater in NYC for front-row RENT tickets (original Broadway cast)
2. Rented a car in Scotland and drove around the country with no particular destination
3. Swam in the Andaman Sea
4. Rode in a hot air balloon
5. Went to the top of Pike’s Peak
6. Saw the “Zipper” move the barriers on the Tappan Zee Bridge
7. Spent a week in a bayside cottage in Novia Scotia
8. Had a drink in the Eagle and Child, the pub where C.S. Lewis & J.R.R. Tolkien hung out in Oxford
9. Rode an elephant
10. Got married in a historic building (an old wooden chapel)
11. Got baptized in a river
12. Saw The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway
13. Saw Les Miserables in London
14. Drove from Texas to Connecticut by myself
15. Saw a Depeche Mode concert from a Suite at the American Airlines Center
16. Walked along the beach in Phuket, Thailand
17. Participated in a war protest
18. Climbed lots of stairs up to the bell tower of Notre Dame
19. Walked along the San Antonio Riverwalk when the Christmas lights were lit
20. Won a sweepstakes
21. Walked to the top of Stone Mountain
22. Water-skied
23. Saw the Nutcracker Ballet
24. Saw gymnastics at the Olympics
25. Stood at the “other side” of the Atlantic Ocean (in Ireland)

...to be continued...

You also once drove from Connecticut to Texas with your father. Of course, as I recall, that trip took twice as long because of all the old man potty stops.

I'm pretty sure I haven't done any of those things. Neat.

I think the following are especially cool: #8, 9, 10, 11, 20, 24.
